Paul Williamson has been appointed as the new principal of Prairie Point Middle School, effective July 1, pending Board approval. This appointment follows the resignation of Ian Dye, who will become the Superintendent of the Clear Lake Community School District at the end of the current school year.
Williamson brings a wealth of experience, proven leadership, a collaborative leadership style, and a strong commitment to student success. He is in his 14th year as building Principal at Abraham Lincoln High School (Des Moines School District). As Principal at Lincoln, Williamson implemented various instructional frameworks and spearheaded real-time interventions to address both immediate and long-term student academic gaps. He has also served on a number of district and advisory committees with the goal of building a strong and collaborative community of student and professional learners. Prior to Lincoln, he served as Assistant Principal at Wasson High School in Colorado Springs and spent several years as an instrumental music educator in both Colorado and Oklahoma.
“It is a true honor to join the College Community School District and serve as the next principal of Prairie Point Middle School,” said Williamson. “There are already so many great things happening at Prairie Point and I look forward to learning from the staff, families, and students who make this school community so strong. Together, we will continue to build on this positive momentum while working to increase student achievement and strengthen postsecondary awareness for all students.”
Williamson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Tulsa and earned a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University.
“I am thrilled to welcome Paul to the Prairie community,” said Superintendent of School Dr. Doug Wheeler. “Paul is an experienced administrator with a passion for engaging students, families and staff. At Prairie Point, we have great learners who are served by an outstanding staff and I am excited to see how Paul’s leadership can further strengthen a great school.”
Paul and his wife Lorie have five children with their youngest attending the University of Northern Iowa in the fall.
Prairie Point Middle School is located at 8015 Kirkwood Blvd SW and serves approximately 860 students in grades 7th and 8th.
