Christie VanWey

The College Community School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Christie VanWey as its new Chief Financial Officer and Board Secretary pending Board approval. VanWey will assume the role effective July 1, 2025 and will be responsible for the district’s overall financial management and operations. VanWey will replace Angie Morrison who is retiring at the end of the school year. 

“The CFO is critical to achieving our vision of Success for All and I am excited to welcome Christie to our team,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Doug Wheeler. “Christie brings a wealth of experience in school finance leadership as well as building-level employment experiences, which give her a wide perspective of school systems and operations. She demonstrates the qualifications, creativity and drive to ensure continued success for College Community, a leader in fiscal responsibility and learner-focussed decision-making.” 

VanWey has over 10 years of school finance experience and comes to the College Community Schools from the Marion Independent School District where she has served as their Business Manager since 2019.  Prior to Marion, she served as the Business Manager for the Center Point Urbana School District from 2016-2019 and the Alburnett Community School District from 2015-2016.  During her tenure at Marion she managed a $32 million budget as well as led efforts to secure a $31 million General Obligation bond for school improvements including a new stadium, auditorium and elementary school.

In her new role, VanWey will primarily be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the district’s budget development and management
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant financial regulations and accounting standards
  • Preparing financial reports as required by state and federal agencies  
  • Forecasting long-term financial needs and develop strategies for sustainable funding
  • Overseeing District Operations (buildings and grounds, nutrition and transportation)

Van Wey, a native of Marion, holds a School Business Official License and is a member of both Iowa Association of School Business Officials (IASBO) and the National Association of School Business Officials. In 2024 VanWey received the Professional Leadership Award from IASBO.
