What’s Included in Breakfast and Lunch?
Breakfast choices include:
- Main Item Choice
- Choice of juice cup (apple, grape, fruit punch, orange)
- Fruit choices
- Choice of milk (plain skim or chocolate skim)
To count as a meal, students have to choose at least 3 items with one being a serving of fruit or a juice cup.
Example: The planned menu is:
Fruit & Yogurt Parfait with Granola or Cereal & Toast or Mini Pancakes
Strawberries
Juice cup
Milk choice
Based on the planned menu, the following combinations of choices count as a breakfast meal:
- 1 pkg Mini pancakes, 1/2 cup strawberries, 1 juice, 1 milk
- 1 Cereal bowl, 1-piece toast, 1 juice cup
- 2 pieces of toast, 1 juice, 1 milk
- 1 juice cup, 1/2 cup fruit, 1 milk
- 1 fruit and yogurt parfait with granola
- 1 parfait, fruit, 1 juice, 1 milk
Lunch choices include*:
- Main Item Choice (Meat-Meat Alternate and Grain)
- Vegetable Choices
- Fruit choices
- Choice of milk (plain skim or chocolate skim)
To count as a lunch, students have to choose at least 3 of the 5 food groups with one being a serving of fruit or vegetable.
Example: The planned menu is:
Cheese pizza, Hamburger on a bun, Lasagna with a bread stick
Salad, Broccoli
Apple Slices, Watermelon
Milk
Based on the planned menu, the following combinations of choices count as a lunch meal:
- 3/4 cup of fruit, 1/2 cup vegetable, 1 milk
- 1 piece of pizza, 1/2 cup fruit or veg
- 1 sandwich, 1/2 cup fruit or veg
- 2 bread sticks, 1/2 cup fruit, 1 milk
- 1 hamburger without the bun, ½ cup broccoli, ½ cup watermelon
- 1 sandwich, unlimited fruits and veggies, 1 milk
*If chips, a cookie, Slushie, or ice cream are on the menu, they are also included in a meal. Otherwise, any other items like chips, bottled beverages, cookies, etc. are a la carte and not included as part of a meal.
