On May 7th, Prairie Point 8th graders attended the Workplace Learning Connection’s Financial Literacy Fair held at the Kirkwood Regional Center in Hiawatha. To prepare, students explored potential careers and calculated their estimated net monthly income.
The fair served as a budgeting boot camp! Students navigated booths to make choices about expenses like housing and transportation. After factoring in their calculated income, they saw how much remained after essential costs. The final stop featured a financial counselor who reviewed their budgets and discussed the practicalities of managing money.
This engaging format gave students a real-world perspective on financial planning, helping them make informed choices for their future.
