Six Prairie High School Students participated at the Iowa Youth Institute in Ames, Iowa at Iowa State University on Monday, April 29th. Each student conducted research about a global food issue, wrote a research paper about their proposed solutions, and discussed their ideas in round table discussions with peers and industry experts. After participating at the Iowa Youth Institute, members are now considered Borlaug Scholars and are eligible to participate in the Global Youth Institute, paid fellowship with the USDA, and international internships. 

Each participant received a $1,000 scholarship to Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. 

The World Food Prize was founded by Dr. Norman Borlaug, a Nobel Peace Prize winner who saved over a billion people from famine and starvation. The World Food Prize celebrates individuals who significantly improve global food security. “Food is the moral right of all who are born into this world.”  Dr. Norman Borlaug
