Clash 2024 Prairie Ambassadors R5A 0823 S

Congratulations to Prairie High School senior Jesse Flaherty who is receiving the Excellence in the Arts Award from the Cedar Rapids Gazette. Jesse, who was nominated by Prairie Choral Director Justin Sands, will be recognized on March 24th at Theatre Cedar Rapids for excellence in the performing art category.

The Gazette launched Excellence in the Arts in 2023 to create an experience that recognizes and celebrates students who are making incredible contributions to the visual, digital, and performing arts. The program is a chance for patrons to hear the stories of student artists, and the people that are supporting their efforts. This year, there were approximately 50 nominations from talented high school students around Eastern Iowa.

Jesse has been heavily involved in the choir program and is a three-year member of Ambassadors and has been selected for the Iowa All-State Chorus three times. He has captured multiple Best Soloist and Outstanding Performer awards at show choir competitions throughout the country.

Jesse has also participated in Concert Chorale, Chamber Choir, and the annual Prairie High School musical as well as TCR shows. He has earned high rankings at competitions for the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Jesse has extensive dance training where he has also earned many awards nationally. Jesse’s future plans include studying dance and/or musical theatre so he can continue performing professionally.

Congratulations Jesse Flaherty!
