Construction and renovation is in full swing this summer at the 9th Grade Center/Prairie Delta (former location of Prairie Creek Intermediate School). The renovations to the 9th Grade Center/Prairie Delta and the construction of the new 5-6 building were part of the $54 million bond issue that passed on March 3, 2020 and revenues generated from the state-wide penny tax.

Renovations to the former Creek Building, designed to accommodate 9th grade and Prairie Delta, will be completed for the start of the 2024-2025 school year. Highlights include a new entry/front office addition with a new secured entrance, an enclosed connection from the 9th Grade Center to the high school cafeteria, remodel of the west science classrooms into a band and choir facility, updated finishes throughout the existing classrooms, restrooms, library, and hallways, renovation of the old study hall space to provide a district professional learning space and safety upgrades throughout the building. Prairie Delta will also have its own separate entrance on the south side of the building.

“I am excited to see the continued progress on this project,” said 9th Grade Building Principal Holly Palmersheim. “Our goal has been to provide our 9th graders with a space that best facilitates learning and the opportunities Prairie has to offer as they begin their high school journey.”

Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, Prairie Point Middle school will continue to serve 7th and 8th grade students. The Prairie Delta program is an extension of Prairie High School and is currently located on the Kirkwood Community College campus. The program serves students in grades 9-12 in the College Community School District who seek a smaller learning environment.
