College Community Schools is pleased to announce that Mike Hicks has been selected to receive
the 2023 Governor’s Individual Award for Volunteer Service.  He was honored at a regional ceremony in Vinton on June 6th.  

Mike has gone Above and Beyond for many years to support students, staff, programs, and the College Community School District. Mike is our high school safety monitor and is retired from the Iowa State Patrol.  Here is a sample of Mike’s contributions to the Prairie community.  

  • Attends numerous home and away sporting events to support the athletes and coaches 
  • Attends our fine arts events and performances 
  • In 2020, Mike received the Sportsmanship Award from the Iowa Girls Union at the State Tournament    
  • Mike can be found on many weekends on our Prairie campus pulling weeds, cutting limbs, and picking up garbage  
  • During the school day, Mike goes above and beyond his duties as assigned to keep our schools clean and safe
  • Volunteers his time to supervise high school prom, dances, and a variety of other events 

Congratulations and thank you Mike for all you do to support Prairie!
