The College Community School District has selected Scott Black as the next Principal at Prairie Edge effective July 1 pending Board approval. Black replaces Stephanie Van Hemert who recently resigned.   

Black comes from Challenger Middle School in Colorado Springs, CO. where he is currently the Dean of Students and MTSS Coordinator. At Challenger, he also served a variety of roles including School Assessment Coordinator and the Interim Assistant Principal/Athletic Director. Prior to Challenger Middle School, he was an Instructional Coach, Curriculum Alignment Specialist, Activities Director and a Language Arts Teacher.

“Scott has a variety of experiences and the educational background we were looking for to lead Prairie Edge,” said Julie McKibben, Executive Director of Special Education. “He has a strong capacity to foster relationships and provide the necessary support and guidance to meet the individual needs of our students which will serve us well.”

Black, a native of New Jersey, received his Bachelor of Arts from Colorado State University and a Master of Arts in Education Leadership from Regis University.

“I am honored to be named the new principal of Prairie Edge,” said Black. “I look forward to serving with the staff to support our students and families in new and innovative ways. I am excited to learn more about the community and find ways to develop partnerships to assist in meeting our students’ needs and to build on the successes.”

Prairie Edge is a K-12 Alternative School located on the Four Oaks campus that provides an educational environment that supports students with behavior and mental health needs.
