Cedar Rapids Prairie Activities Director Rocky Bennett announces that Todd Kuntz will take over as the next Head Boys Basketball Coach pending School Board approval. Kuntz takes over for Jeremy Rickertsen who recently resigned after nine years as head coach.

“We are extremely excited for Todd  to lead our program,” said Bennett. “He is a proven winner at the high school level and will do a tremendous job fostering strong relationships with our athletes, parents and our school community.”

Kuntz comes to Prairie with 15 years of high school varsity head coaching experience and an overall record of 221-131. During his tenure as a head coach, Kuntz has experienced a lot of success.  His success included 7 conference championships and 4 district championships. The last 7 years, Kuntz led the Dunkerton boys program where he guided the Raiders to the 2023 State Tournament which included a 38 game conference winning streak. He has been named conference and sub-state Coach of the Year the past three consecutive years and is an active board member with the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association.

“I am beyond excited and grateful to be offered the opportunity to lead the Prairie Boys Basketball program,” said Kuntz. “I am ready to serve this community and lead these young men daily on and off the court with enthusiasm and empathy. Prairie is a special school district and my wife Amber and my two sons are looking forward to being Prairie Hawks!”

Kuntz will teach Special Education at Prairie High School starting next fall.
