Fourteen students from the Prairie Chess Club competed at the Iowa Scholastic Team Chess Championships in West Des Moines on Saturday, January 14, 2023.  All were very successful in the competition.  Both Prairie Point and Prairie Creek finished in second place in their respective Middle School and Elementary School sections, while the Prairie Schools K-3 students finished in first place.  Overall, 70 students, representing twenty schools participated in the event.

Blake Eynon (Creek), Cole Garibay (Creek), Nathaniel Griffith (Creek), Melody White-Haar (Creek), Jack Bear McCabe (Heights), Shay Hawk McCabe (Heights), Aaron Wong (Heights) Grayson McDaniel (Ridge), Jacob Jeffers (Ridge), Cruz Meade (Ridge), Matthew Formanek (Point), Justin Ibeawuchi (Point), Sam Martin (Point), and Vincent Wong (Point). Several players received individual awards as well, placing in the Top 3 in the grade including Shay Hawk, Grayson, Jack Hawk(3), Greyson (3), Cruz (3) Aaron (4), Vincent (7), and Sam (8).
