Cedar Rapids Prairie High School is pleased to announce the appointment of Mady Mulherin as the new Head Girls Volleyball Coach. A dedicated educator and coach with deep roots in the local athletic community, Mulherin will also join the high school faculty as a Physical Education teacher.

Mulherin comes to Prairie from the Cedar Rapids Community School District, where she served as a Physical Education teacher and Volleyball Coach at Harding Middle School. During her tenure at Cedar Rapids, she was recognized by the District for going above and beyond in her commitment to educating the “whole child” and fostering a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Mulherin has been actively involved in club volleyball, developing athletes across various ages and skill levels. Her experience includes significant work with Cedar Falls club programs, most notably 6 Pack.

“I am beyond honored and thrilled to be named the next Head Volleyball Coach at Prairie High School,” said Mulherin. “This has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and I am committed to building a culture where every athlete feels valued, challenged, and inspired to be their best both on and off the court.”

A former standout multi-sport athlete at Linn-Mar High School, Mulherin credits volleyball as the sport that shaped her competitive mindset, work ethic, and passion for collective team success. She brings that same competitive drive to a Prairie program looking to energize its culture.

“We are excited to have Coach Mulherin lead our volleyball program,” said Prairie High School Activities Director Andrew Davis. “She brings lots of energy and passion for the game. She will infuse excitement and build a positive culture from her leadership within the program. Her dual role as a teacher and coach will allow her to be a consistent presence for student-athletes throughout the school day, further strengthening the Hawks’ athletic community.”
