Welcome to College Community School District. We’re glad you are a part of our community. College Community is a growing school district that serves approximately 5,800 students from Linn, Benton and Johnson counties. The 137 square mile district includes parts of southwest Cedar Rapids, the cities of Ely, Fairfax, Shueyville, Swisher and Walford along with surrounding rural areas.
The district office determines building placements for students in grades K-4. The key factors that are considered when assigning students to one of our five excellent elementary schools are class sizes and the demographic composition of the student body. The district’s goal is to ensure all five elementary schools have similar student populations. College Community’s central campus allows us to balance both the student demographics and resources to the benefit of all children and building assignments are critical steps to balancing this effort.

Kindergarten/AK/ Preschool 2025-2026
- If your child will be 4 years old by September 15, 2025, they are eligible to enroll in preschool for the 2025-2026 school year. For more information please visit the Prairie Hawks Preschool page.
- If your child will be 5 years old by September 15, 2025, they are eligible to enroll in Kindergarten or AK for the 2025-2026 school year.
Kindergarten is available at all schools. The district office determines building placements for all incoming kindergarten students. College Community’s central campus allows us to balance both the student demographics and resources to the benefit of all children.
