Activities Announcement

Prairie High School is excited to announce the hiring of Michael Tierney as the Team Track Director for both the boys and girls program pending School Board approval. Tierney replaces Bill Schwarz who has served as Team Director since 2021. Prior to the reorganization to have one Team Director, Schwarz led the boys program for 20 years. Schwarz retired after the season but will continue to lead the cross country programs.

“Coach Tierney’s proven track record, enthusiasm, and passion for the sport make him an invaluable asset to our program,” said Activities Director Andrew Davis. “I am confident in his ability to lead our track and field athletes to new heights.”

Tierney has been an integral part of the Prairie track and field coaching staff since 2016, where he has excelled in coaching sprinters. Prior to his tenure at Prairie, he contributed to the Cedar Rapids Jefferson track and field program as an assistant coach.

During Tierney’s time in Prairie’s track program, the Hawks have had remarkable success. The team captured multiple state and conference championships, and set numerous school sprint records and were Drake Cup Champions.

“I am honored to take on this new role and continue working with our talented athletes and dedicated coaching staff,” said Tierney. “I am excited about the opportunities to build upon the program’s rich tradition of excellence.”
